Letter From The Mayor

Dear Resident,

I am writing today to give you an update on the precautions the Village is taking as the Coronavirus continues to spread.  As many of you have seen, Governor J.B. Pritzker announced a ban on all large gatherings of 1,000 people or more in Illnois as the number of coronavirus cases in the state continues to rise.  The Governor also asked that all gatherings of 250 people or more also be postponed amid the outbreak.  Furthermore, sports teams, and entertainment venues around the country are postponing the start of their seasons and cancelling events.

As Mayor, I believe these are prudent measures.  My intention is to maintain as many of our Village services as possible without exposing our residents to the virus.  The need to slow the spread of the disease is my most important priority.

Here in Orland Hills, the Village Hall, Public Works, and Police Department will continue to operate with normal hours.  However, we are suspending the Dial-A-Ride service until further notice.  The Recreation Center will remain open, but programs including pre-school, recreation classes, and team sports are suspended until further notice.  Please contact the Recreation Center directly at 708-349-7211 if you have any questions.

Additionally, our Police Department is working closely with the Orland Fire Protection District, the Cook County Department of Public Health, and the Illinois Department of Public Health.  We feel confident that we are prepared to minimize the spread of the virus and to treat individuals who may become infected.

The key is to take the virus seriously but not to panic.  Common sense measures such as frequent hand washing, covering coughs and sneezes, disinfecting frequently touched surfaces, and staying home if you are sick are crucial to stop the spread of the virus.

Lastly, since this is an evolving situtation, I would encourage you to monitor the following links for more information as it becomes available.

Sincerely,

Kyle R. Hastings
Mayor
